Apply for Phin's Creative Potluck! 🍽️

Phin Performing Arts is accepting applications for our first Creative Potluck!

When: Dec 6-10, 2026

Where: Kjipuktuk/Halifax, NS

What is a creative potluck?

A chance to come together with creators of different backgrounds and practices to share and experience creativity together. Everyone will bring a *creative dish to share.

*A creative dish is a creative activity you bring to share, that we can explore together. It can be an appetizer (just a little something to warm up), a drink (an add-on to someone else's activity), a main course (a longer exploration), or a dessert (short and sweet, focused)

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for professional practitioners of dance, theatre, writing, circus, music, visual art, photography, video, web-based media, etc (if you don't see yourself represented here, you are extra welcome), and those who come from a wide array of backgrounds and lived experiences. We want to gather a diverse group of people together for a moment of sharing and creativity, outside of our own practice and comfort zone. Applications from artists identifying with communities that have traditionally faced barriers to participation or advancement are particularly encouraged. Let's share and create together!

Why?

We want to meet new people and ignite ideas and partnerships in our community. We'll play together. Maybe you will need your next creative collaborator. Maybe you'll get a spark of an idea for your new project. Maybe you'll join **Phin's new creation.

**At Phin we are embarking on a new creation for 2027, and are looking for new collaborators. We might find you at the potluck!

More Details

All participants will receive a stipend. Because of this, we will need to limit the number of participants to match our budget. This will mostly be done on a first-come-first-served basis, with a view to maximizing the diversity of the group. HOWEVER, we don't plan for this to be just a one-time thing, so if for some reason you are not selected this time (which will have nothing to do with your self-worth or artistic prowess), we will look forward to asking you to play next time! Throughout our time together we will share each others' dishes, have lively discussion, and finish the week by ‘making a thing’ in small groups.

Schedule

Dec 6: 2h evening social activity

Dec 7: 9:30am - 1:00pm

Dec 8: 12:30pm - 4:00pm

Dec 9: 9:30am - 1:00pm

Phin Performing Arts operates on the ancestral lands of Mi’kma’ki, in Kjipuktuk/Halifax. We are grateful to share these lands with the Mi’kmaw people.  We respect these lands and their original inhabitants, including the animals and people who have walked here before us, and aim to tread lightly on the earth out of respect for its future inhabitants.
